Dr Terashima attended the meeting “Informal consultation on access to hepatitis medicines in upper-middle- and high-income countries” held in Manila, Philippines from 21 to 22 August 2017. The high cost of new hepatitis medicines remains the major barrier to upper-middle- and high-income countries because they do not benefit from generic hepatitis medicines at reduced prices. In this meeting, we shared the information about prices and negotiation strategies from each country and identified the several ways through joint negotiation, sharing of negotiation strategies, registration and monitoring of efficacy of new treatment, or building for negotiation skills to improve the access to hepatitis medicines in our region.
