6th LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR CANCER CONTROL (CanLEAD) (Seoul, Republic of Korea)
Dr. Tatsuya Yamashita and Dr. Kuniaki Arai participated in 6th LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR CANCER CONTROL (CanLEAD) in Seoul as WHO's Temporary advisers.
This workshop is held every year, and one cancer is selected in each year, and WHO and Korean National Cancer Center (KCC) collaborate to invite doctors from Asian countries to demonstrate leadership in cancer prevention and control in each country.
The theme of this year was “liver cancer.” Because it was caused by hepatitis B and C viruses, the two departments, Non-communicable disease (NCD) and Communicable disease (CD) collaborated. The participating countries are Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Solomon Islands and Kazakhstan.
At the workshop, Dr. Arai gave a lecture on “early detection of liver cancer” and Dr. Yamashita gave a lecture on “diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis and liver cancer”. Since we are good at liver cancer, we could show the presence of Kanazawa University more than ever. The doctors from Laos who have just launched the National Cancer Center and the doctor from Kazakhstan have asked for further advice.
It also helped us understand how NCD approaches, how cancers are collected in each country, and how to collect data, so that we were able to recognize the differences and problems in Japan.
