Hepatitis Programme Review in Viet Nam

Dr. Tomoyuki Hayashi and Dr. Noboru Takata participated in a hepatitis program review conducted in collaboration with the Vietnam Ministry of Health as a WHO Collaborating Center (WHO-CC) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The main objective was to evaluate the achievements and challenges of Vietnam's Hepatitis Program (2021–2024) and to discuss strategies for improvement for the 2025–2030 period.
On the first day, a briefing session was held in Hanoi, followed by fieldwork at hospitals in the city.
From the second day onward, Dr. Takata traveled by car for several hours to Son La, a rural area, to observe the current situation of hepatitis in the region. Meanwhile, Dr. Hayashi held one-on-one meetings with senior officials from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and VNP+ (Vietnam Network of People Living with HIV) to discuss the current status of Vietnam's hepatitis initiatives.
The review identified key priorities, including strengthening training and support systems to improve vaccination rates, expanding health insurance coverage to enhance access to diagnosis and treatment, and improving central leadership while ensuring effective implementation of plans at the local level. It was concluded that achieving Vietnam's goals requires further refinement of policies and implementation frameworks.
